So what is the difference and how does this effect my photoshoot?
Hopefully by now you have looked through our portfolio and have fallen in love with our style. What you might have noticed is that we do offer a lot of variety and options in our newborn photoshoots and while some images include baskets and bowls with flowers and flare, others are sweet but simple, some posed and others not so much.
What is the difference?
Styled Newborn photoshoots are where we bring out all the props. The Baskets, the bowls, the flowers and ferns, the unicorn or starry night backdrop. What we pull out for the photoshoot will be determined based off the details you give us, the images you send over and colours you request. You might want to use a mix of shades of the same colour for a cohesive look or mix up the colours on each set-up to have a variety of tones. Styled sessions will typically use up-to 4 props with little changes made during each set up for baby's individual portriats. Styled photoshoots are typically focused on baby with a few family images. Siblings images are done during the family portion of the photoshoot but depending on the cooperation of the older children, we may also add them in next to the props.
Lifestyle Newborn photoshoots can mean different things to different photographers. For Writing with light photography, it's all about the baby and loving on that little bundle of joy! Yes you are still posed and placed into the best possible positions to flatter and showcase the family during your photoshoot BUT we aren't so concerned with everyone looking at the camera and being picture perfect (This is a great option for families with toddlers where co-operation can be limited or they prefer to stay close to parents). With our lifestyle sessions we stick to earthy warm tones or clean whites, this pulls the focus to your faces and emotions and the connections between you and baby. Lifestyle newborn sessions are typically more family focused though we will still take beautiful portraits of your little one on their own, these newborn portraits are less posed, we let baby stretch, capture the big yawns and focus on the little little details.
Simplicity Newborn photoshoots are striped back posed sessions. We keep the set ups simple as the names suggests. No props, maybe some texture but mostly it's just baby, we start wrapped and work our way to little fingers and toes. Simplicity photoshoots typically focus more on baby with a mix of family portraits. These are timeless and classic portraits. Colour wise we can work with a variety of tones, mixing it up between poses or we can stick to a simplified colour palate for a cohesive look to your session.
Can we mix it up?
YES! More often that not, our clients are coming to us because they love our style, all of it, and want a little bit of everything we offer, so that's what we do. When designing your photoshoot we mix up the session to include a little bit of posed, lifestyle and simplicity. The beauty in this is that you get to truly personalise your newborn photoshoot. You will notice a beautiful consistency throughout all of our work, tied together through warmth and connections and detail.
